The Netflix series: Dark Tourist

If you are someone who loves to indulge in the world of all things creepy and dark, this series is for you. I stumbled across this as my brother was watching it and instantly wanted to know what it was about.

A New Zealand film maker and journalist David Farrier dives into the dark spots of tourism in today's world. From vampires in New Orleans, to voodoo in Africa, Farrier never fails to immerse himself into the dark culture.

Farrier gives a whimsical yet troubling and dangerous look at some of the worlds atrocities (such as Hiroshima.) Upon almost being arrested, and dying from immense radio activity, Farrier gives his audience a serious reality about what is going on in the world. Although the content of the tours is great, the ending of each episode is not as fabulous. Specifically the episode where Farrier goes to imitate an illegal border crossing from Mexico to the US, he concludes with "for real migrants, this is never fun". Which is not a real analysis or reflection of what these people go through.

With this being said, if you are looking for a quick and not complicated documentary series on dark tourism, this is for you. But if you are one who looks for real reflections and meaningful comparisons this is not a show for you. It is a fun and small series about the weird side of the world, there is not much to really think about cognitively, all you have to do is sit and watch.
